Six Generations of Craftsmanship

J.H. & T.P. Duncan has been serving families across Essex and East London for over a century. We are a family-run business with deep roots in the craft of monumental masonry — guided throughout by the values of dedication, craftsmanship and compassion.

Every memorial we create is bespoke, designed in close collaboration with each family we work with. From the first conversation to the final installation, we are with you at every step.

Our Heritage

A History in Stone

1917

The Trade Begins

Jack Harold Snook, born in 1903, began learning the craft of stonework under his father George — starting a family tradition that would span more than a century.

1941

Snook Brothers Masonry

Jack and his brother founded the Snook Brothers Masonry Company. The business was later paused when both brothers entered military service.

1952

Acquiring J.H. & T.P. Duncan

Following a lifetime in the trade, Jack Snook acquired J.H. & T.P. Duncan Ltd, establishing the name and legacy that continues to this day.

1970

The Next Generation

Jack's son Michael, who had joined as an apprentice in 1946 and served in the Royal Air Force, became a director alongside his brother John — each bringing specialist expertise in fixing and renovation.

Today

Anthony & the Snook Family

The business is now run by Anthony Snook and his four daughters, who together bring decades of experience across every aspect of memorial masonry — from design and stone sourcing to engraving and administration.

Sadie brings a decade of expertise in granite sourcing and sales, helping families choose the right stone, finish and style for a lasting memorial.

Phoebe Snook

Coordination & Administration

Phoebe keeps everything running smoothly — from permit applications and scheduling to ensuring every customer receives a thoughtful, personal service.

Amelia Snook

Electronic Etching & Laser Engraving

Amelia manages the electronic etching and laser engraving services, combining modern technology with traditional artistry to create detailed, precise inscriptions.
